Welcome to The Dwelling Place.

2

:

I'm Stefan Hickox on behalf of

Entrusted Ministries, and our mission

3

:

is to build the body of Christ by the

authority of God's word, family by

4

:

family generation after generation.

5

:

Though I have certainly wanted to help

us apply God's word to our homes and

6

:

to our motherhood, one of the last

things that I'd want to do is make us

7

:

convinced that the Bible is all about us.

8

:

I believe the Bible was written to us.

9

:

I believe the Bible was written for us.

10

:

But if we look at every page and

believe it's about us, we're mistaken.

11

:

We were made for him.

12

:

He is the potter.

13

:

We are the clay.

14

:

And when I think about what's most

important from today's reading, just as

15

:

the Lord's words silenced job, I need to

let the voice of the Lord speak most here.

16

:

I'll read as much as I can from these

whirlwind speeches as they're sometimes

17

:

referred to or as the Yahweh speeches.

18

:

If you listen to our first episode,

you heard me explain how the name of

19

:

God changed from Genesis one to Genesis

two, will something really beautiful

20

:

happens in the Book of Job as well.

21

:

In chapters one and two, God

is called Yahweh, which is

22

:

his personal covenant name.

23

:

But from chapters three to 37 he was

referred to as the Almighty, which conveys

24

:

his power and might, but not his nearness

as he begins to speak to Job out of the

25

:

whirlwind In chapter eight in the original

language, his name returns to Yahweh.

26

:

He is drawing near, although he

will do it in power and I certainly

27

:

won't claim to do his voice justice.

28

:

then the Lord answered Job out

of the whirlwind and said, who

29

:

is this that darkens counsel by

words without knowledge, dress for

30

:

action like a man I will question

you and you make it known to me.

31

:

Where were you when I laid

the foundation of the earth?

32

:

Tell me if you have understanding.

33

:

Who determined its measurements, surely,

you know, or who stretched the line upon

34

:

it on what were its spaces sunk or who

laid its cornerstone when the morning

35

:

stars sang together and all the sons of

God shouted for joy or who shut in the sea

36

:

with doors when it burst out from the womb

37

:

when I made clouds, its

garment and thick darkness.

38

:

Its swaddling band and prescribed limits

for it, and set bars and doors and said,

39

:

thus far shall you come and no farther.

40

:

And here shall your proud waves be stayed.

41

:

Have you commanded the morning since

your days began and caused the dawn

42

:

to know its place that it may take

hold of the skirts of the earth and

43

:

the wicked be shaken out of it?

44

:

It has changed like clay under the seal.

45

:

And its features stand out

like a garment from the wicked.

46

:

Their light is withheld and

their uplifted arm is broken.

47

:

Have you entered into the springs of the

sea or walked in the recesses of the deep?

48

:

Have the gates of death been

revealed to you, or have you

49

:

seen the gates of deep darkness?

50

:

Have you comprehended

the expanse of the earth?

51

:

Declare, if you know all this.

52

:

Where is the way to the dwelling of light

and where is the place of darkness that

53

:

you may take it to its territory and that

you may discern the paths to its home?

54

:

You know, for you were born then and

the number of your days is great.

55

:

Have you entered the storehouses

of the snow or have you seen the

56

:

storehouses of the hail, which I have

reserved for the time of trouble,

57

:

for the day of battle and war?

58

:

What is the way to the place

where the light is distributed?

59

:

Or where the east wind is scattered

upon the earth, who has cleft a

60

:

channel for the Torrance of rain and

a way for the thunderbolt to bring

61

:

rain on a land where no man is on

the desert, in which there is no man

62

:

to satisfy the waste and desolate

land and to make the ground sprout

63

:

with grass has the reign of father

or who has forgotten the drops of dew.

64

:

From whose womb did the ice come forth?

65

:

And who has given birth

to the frost of heaven?

66

:

The waters become hard, like stone

and the face of the deep is frozen.

67

:

Can you bind the chains of the

Platy or loose the cords of Orion?

68

:

Can you lead forth the maseth in

their season or can you guide

69

:

the bear with its children?

70

:

Do you know the ordinances of the heavens?

71

:

Can you establish their rule on the earth?

72

:

Can you lift up your voice to the clouds

that a flood of waters may cover you?

73

:

Can you send forth lightnings that they

may go and say to you, here we are, who

74

:

has put wisdom in the inward parts or

given understanding to the mind, who

75

:

can number the clouds by wisdom, or

who can tilt the water skins of the

76

:

heavens when the dust runs into a

mass and the CLOs stick fast together.

77

:

Is the wild ax willing to serve you?

78

:

Will he spend the night at your manger?

79

:

Can you bind him in the furrow with ropes

or will he harrow the valleys after you?

80

:

Will you depend on him because

his strength is great, and will

81

:

you leave to him your labor?

82

:

Do you have faith in him that

he will return your grain and

83

:

gather it to your threshing floor?

84

:

The wings of the ostrich wave proudly.

85

:

But are they the pinons and plumage of

love for she leaves her eggs to the earth

86

:

and lets them be warmed on the ground,

forgetting that a foot may crush them

87

:

and that the wild beast may trample them.

88

:

She deals cruelly with her

young as if they were not hers.

89

:

Though her labor be in vain, yet

she has no fear because God has

90

:

made her forget wisdom and given

her no share and understanding.

91

:

When she rouses herself to flee, she

laughs at the horse and his rider.

92

:

Do you give the horse his might.

93

:

Do you clothe his neck with a mane?

94

:

Do you make him leap like the locust?

95

:

His majestic snorting is terrifying.

96

:

He pauses in the valley

and exalts in his strength.

97

:

and the Lord said to Job shall a fault

finder, contend with the Almighty.

98

:

He who argues with God let him answer it.

99

:

Then Job answered the

Lord and said, behold.

100

:

I am of small account.

101

:

What shall I answer you?

102

:

I lay my hand on my mouth.

103

:

I have spoken once and I will not answer

twice, but I will proceed no further.

104

:

Then the Lord answered Job

out of the whirlwind and said,

105

:

dress for action like a man.

106

:

I will question you and

you make it known to me.

107

:

Will you even put me in the wrong?

108

:

Will you condemn me that

you may be in the right?

109

:

Have you an arm like God?

110

:

And can you thunder with a voice like his?

111

:

Adorn yourself with majesty and dignity.

112

:

Clothe yourself with glory and splendor.

113

:

Pour out the overwhelming of

your anger and look on everyone

114

:

who is proud and a base him.

115

:

Look on everyone who is proud

and bring him low and tread down

116

:

the wicked where they stand.

117

:

Hide them all in the dust together,

bind their faces in the world below.

118

:

Then will I also acknowledge to you

that your own right hand can save you?

119

:

I can't help but think about all of the

scientific data that proves that we live

120

:

on the Goldilocks planet, the tilt of

the earth on its axis, it's no accident.

121

:

God confirms that he puts wisdom in

our minds and that no one else can do.

122

:

So

123

:

In chapter 38, when he says,

can you bind the chains of Platy

124

:

or loose the cords of Orion?

125

:

He's discussing two constellations, and

recently scientists discovered that Platy

126

:

is bound by gravity and Orion is not,

and it's actually moving farther apart.

127

:

How could the author have known

this thousands of years ago?

128

:

Only because this is the God who puts

wisdom and understanding in the mind.

129

:

The Lord goes on to vividly

describe some of his most powerful

130

:

creatures, behemoth and leviathan.

131

:

And though we're given detail upon

detail, their identity is not certain.

132

:

But what is is God's message.

133

:

If you tremble at the creation, it is

wise to tremble and awe at their creator.

134

:

And finally, in chapter 42, then

Job answered the Lord and said, I

135

:

know that you can do all things.

136

:

And that no purpose of

yours can be thwarted.

137

:

Who is this that hides

counsel without knowledge.

138

:

Therefore, I have uttered

what I did not understand.

139

:

Things too wonderful for me, which I

did not know here, and I will speak.

140

:

I will question you and

you make it known to me.

141

:

I had heard of you by the hearing

of the ear, but now my eye sees you.

142

:

Therefore, I despise myself

and repent in dust and ashes.

143

:

After the Lord had spoken these

words to Job, the Lord said to pha,

144

:

the terminate my anger burns against

you and against your two friends.

145

:

For you have not spoken of me.

146

:

What is right?

147

:

As my servant job has now therefore

takes seven bulls and seven rams

148

:

and go to my servant job and offer

up a burnt offering for yourselves?

149

:

And my servant job shall pray for you.

150

:

For I will accept his prayer not to

deal with you according to your folly.

151

:

For you have not spoken of me.

152

:

What is right as my servant job has.

153

:

So Eli f the te mite and billed the

shoe height and sofar the neite went

154

:

and did what the Lord had told them.

155

:

And the Lord accepted job's prayer.

156

:

And the Lord restored the fortunes of

Job when he had prayed for his friends.

157

:

And the Lord gave job twice

as much as he had before.

158

:

And the Lord blessed the latter

days of Job more than his

159

:

beginning, and he had 14,000 sheep.

160

:

6,000 camels, 1000 Yoko oxen,

and:

161

:

He also had seven sons and three

daughters, and after this job lived

162

:

140 years and saw his sons and his

son's sons four generations and

163

:

job died in old man full of days.

164

:

If you keep track of the blessings

of Job from the beginning of the

165

:

book to the end, he receives exactly

double of all of his possessions.

166

:

But the number of children

he has remains the same.

167

:

He began with seven sons and three

daughters, and he ends with seven

168

:

sons and three daughters on earth.

169

:

But this is an encouraging thought to me.

170

:

Why would the animals double

and not the number of children?

171

:

Perhaps it's because job's initial seven

sons and three daughters are awaiting

172

:

him in heaven in the presence of the

Lord, and he truly does have double.

173

:

Now,

174

:

In James five 11, I read.

175

:

Behold, we consider those

blessed who remain steadfast.

176

:

You have heard of the steadfastness of

Job and you have seen the purpose of the

177

:

Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and

merciful, and I hope that that's our

178

:

perspective as we conclude this book,

that like Job, we can remain steadfast

179

:

that the Lord is compassionate and

merciful and does not expect perfection.

180

:

My MacArthur commentary concludes the

accuser of the brethren is still going to

181

:

and fro throughout the earth, and God's

servants are still learning to trust in

182

:

the all wise, all powerful judge of the

universe for what they cannot understand.

183

:

Heavenly Father, we sit in awe of your

power, your perfection, and your purposes

184

:

help us to trust you in all things.

185

:

In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
