Welcome to the Dwelling Place

Firm Entrusted Ministries.

2

:

We wanna make sure that we're seeking

Christ first and foremost before we

3

:

do all the things, all the time for

all the people that we love so dearly.

4

:

I'm Stephanie Cock, and today we're

looking at Numbers 27 through 30.

5

:

We'll begin with the faith of the

daughters of Xlo had then Moses'

6

:

replacement will become official and

we'll get a recap of the sacrifices.

7

:

Before we end by talking about

vows made to the Lord and

8

:

praying for you and your kids

9

:

in numbers 27, beginning in verse one.

10

:

then drew near the daughters of s Lofa,

had the son of Heifer, son of Gilead,

11

:

son of Maker, son of Manasses from the

clans of Manasses, the son of Joseph.

12

:

The names of his daughters were Mala Noah.

13

:

Hala, Milka and Teza, and they stood

before Moses and before Azar their

14

:

priest and before the Chiefs and

all the congregation at the entrance

15

:

of the tent of meeting saying our

father died in the wilderness.

16

:

He was not among the company of those

who gathered themselves together

17

:

against the Lord in the company of Cora.

18

:

But died for his own

sin and he had no sons.

19

:

Why should the name of our father

be taken away from his clan?

20

:

Because he had no son give to us a

possession among our father's brothers.

21

:

Moses brought their case before the

Lord and the Lord said to Moses,

22

:

the daughters of Sah had are right.

23

:

You shall give them a possession of an

inheritance among their father's brothers

24

:

and transfer the inheritance of their

father to them, and you shall speak to

25

:

the people of Israel saying if a man

dies and has no son, then you shall

26

:

transfer his inheritance to his daughter.

27

:

And if he has no daughter, then you shall

give his inheritance to his brothers.

28

:

And if he has no brothers.

29

:

Then you shall give his inheritance

to his father's brothers, and if

30

:

his father has no brothers, then you

shall give his inheritance to the

31

:

nearest kinsman of his clan and he

shall possess it, then it shall be

32

:

for the people of Israel, a statute

and rule, as the Lord commanded Moses,

33

:

the Lord said to Moses, go up

into this mountain of a burrum.

34

:

And see the land that I have

given to the people of Israel.

35

:

When you have seen it, you also shall be

gathered to your people as your brother

36

:

Aaron was because you rebelled against

my word in the wilderness of Zen when the

37

:

congregation quarrel failing to uphold me

as holy at the waters before their eyes.

38

:

These are the waters of Rabba at Kadesh.

39

:

In the wilderness of Xin, Moses spoke

to the Lord saying, let the Lord the God

40

:

of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a

man over the congregation who shall go

41

:

out before them and come in before them

who shall lead them out and bring them

42

:

in, that the congregation of the Lord may

not be as sheep, that have no shepherd.

43

:

So the Lord said to Moses, take Joshua

the son of none, a man in whom is the

44

:

spirit, and lay your hand on him.

45

:

Make him stand before Azar, the priest

and all the congregation, and you

46

:

shall commission him in their sight.

47

:

You shall invest him with some of your

authority that all the congregation

48

:

of the people of Israel may obey.

49

:

And he shall stand before Lea are the

priest who shall inquire for him by

50

:

the judgment of the rum before the

Lord at his word, they shall go out

51

:

and at his word, they shall come in,

both he and all the people of Israel

52

:

With him, he took Joshua and made

him stand before LEAs other priest and

53

:

the whole congregation, and he laid

his hands on him and commissioned him

54

:

as the Lord directed through Moses.

55

:

God really honors the

daughters of s Lofa had

56

:

at this point in history, it was

absolutely radical that women

57

:

would receive a land inheritance,

58

:

and not only did God honor them, he

said this is how it's gonna be from

59

:

now on in Israel, they advocate for

themselves and their father's legacy.

60

:

But they're also showing bold faith by

saying, God, we believe that you are going

61

:

to give us this land you have promised.

62

:

I can't help but think of the

verse in Hebrews where we are

63

:

told to boldly approach the

throne of grace with confidence.

64

:

They knew their request was valid.

65

:

And they brought it to the Lord.

66

:

It's repeated here why Moses isn't

allowed to enter the promised land.

67

:

The Lord tells him You

failed to uphold me as holy.

68

:

When I remember that, holy

often means set apart.

69

:

It makes more sense to me.

70

:

God is telling him I should have

been set apart as the one that

71

:

brought the water out of the rock.

72

:

You and Aaron should not have

clumped yourself in with me

73

:

saying we did it together.

74

:

And even though I understood the

heart of it before, I need to use

75

:

that definition of set apart to

make it really click in my mind why

76

:

they weren't regarding God as holy.

77

:

It's the second and last time

we'll see the name of God, the

78

:

God of the spirits of all flesh.

79

:

Again, Moses is appealing to God's

character saying, you know everyone's

80

:

heart, please pick the man that will

lead your people in righteousness.

81

:

He wants them to have a shepherd.

82

:

Remember, he grew up in Egypt

where they despised a shepherds.

83

:

Then he became a shepherd for 40

years in Midian before God called

84

:

him, and for the last 40 years,

he's been shepherding God's people.

85

:

This role has been redeemed.

86

:

In his mind, it shows such care that he's

not begging for more time, but asking

87

:

that the Lord would bless the people.

88

:

Joshua has been his right hand

man, and has walked in faith.

89

:

He seems the obvious successor,

but it's not until here that

90

:

the Lord makes it definitive.

91

:

Joshua.

92

:

Is already filled with a spirit

93

:

and the word spirit.

94

:

Here is the word rua, which can

refer to a leadership gifting,

95

:

but more likely the Holy Spirit.

96

:

Joshua will also be relying on Azar,

the priest to hear what to do, and

97

:

he'll be casting lots with a rum.

98

:

This was a common practice in

the Old Testament that they would

99

:

cast lots to determine what the

Lord was calling them to do.

100

:

It was relying upon his sovereignty

instead of their own wisdom.

101

:

And do you know when the last time that

Scripture records someone casting lots?

102

:

It's an acts right before the Holy Spirit

is sent to all believers at Pentecost

103

:

because once they were all filled with the

spirit, they no longer needed to do this.

104

:

And since we have the completed

Word of God and the Holy

105

:

Spirit working in our lives.

106

:

We also no longer need to rely

on chance or probability to

107

:

discern God's will for us.

108

:

God has given us everything we need

for life and godliness so we can walk

109

:

before him in wisdom and surrender.

110

:

Next, there's a review of the sacrifices.

111

:

I know you've seen them many times, but

here there's more emphasis on the Sabbath.

112

:

I thought as we went over them, once

again, we should talk about how Christ

113

:

provided for each of the sacrifices.

114

:

First with the burnt offering,

Christ at toned for us by his

115

:

sinless nature, he couldn't have

satisfied this offering unless he

116

:

was absolutely perfect and sinless.

117

:

Next we have the grain offering.

118

:

This is Jesus's dedication.

119

:

The fact that he was wholly devoted to

his father's purposes and will and not his

120

:

own is what makes him our grain offering.

121

:

The peace offering is that he gave us

reconciliation and fellowship with God.

122

:

Because Christ was at peace with God.

123

:

He could bring us into that relationship.

124

:

And by his substitutionary death, he was

the propitiation and our sin offering.

125

:

He took our place.

126

:

That's what the gospel is.

127

:

Jesus in my place.

128

:

And finally with the trespass offering,

Jesus paid for our redemption.

129

:

He bought us.

130

:

And because of all of this, we have

been fully restored to a Holy God.

131

:

Maybe you're reading all the numbers

of these sacrifices and wondering

132

:

just how many animals it was.

133

:

And my moody commentary, counted it up,

134

:

the burnt sacrifices represented here

rams, and:

135

:

lambs annually, as well as 30 goats.

136

:

First in offerings, when you realize

that this is what God allowed to atone

137

:

for the sin of over 2 million people.

138

:

It is still a costly sacrifice, but

I think it puts it in perspective

139

:

that the Lord made it attainable,

140

:

in chapter 30, God gives

details and rules for vows.

141

:

When men have spiritual authority

in the home, they do take on certain

142

:

responsibilities, and I see that as

protection for women in these verses.

143

:

I also see God's grace toward women.

144

:

I can't tell you how many times I've

made a vow or a goal, and I thought

145

:

it was so right before the Lord.

146

:

And then when I go to share it with

my husband, he looks at me like I

147

:

have six eyeballs and wonders how

I think I could possibly accomplish

148

:

everything I've set out to do.

149

:

There have been many times he's led me

to negotiate something a little bit more

150

:

realistic for our family, for myself,

or for my kids, and that's what makes

151

:

me think that this is protection for us.

152

:

When we as women can have such high

hopes and standards for ourselves,

153

:

often our husbands can step in

and say, okay, take a deep breath.

154

:

Slow down.

155

:

Hopefully they can guide us in

intention, but remind us that it

156

:

doesn't all depend on us and it

doesn't all have to be done right now.

157

:

I can even think of silly examples when

my husband and I were first married and

158

:

we had a doctor recommend that we go

sugar free, dairy free and gluten free.

159

:

And this is way before

it was all the rage.

160

:

I followed two a t and boy was I cranky,

but my husband embraced an 80 20 model.

161

:

Steph: And you know what?

162

:

He was getting healthier

while I was stuck,

163

:

and it was because of my negative

164

:

attitude It really helped me when I

adopted his method a little bit more

165

:

speaking of vows and commitments that we

make, my kids recently set goals for Lent.

166

:

I try to be very careful to help

them understand that when you make a

167

:

vow to the Lord, you wanna keep it.

168

:

I was impressed by the level of

sacrifice they wanted to commit

169

:

to him and like we are all prone

to do a week or so into Lent.

170

:

They said, mom, this is really hard.

171

:

Can I change what I decided to do?

172

:

And I had to tell them, no,

I'm sorry we talked about this.

173

:

You really do have to honor it.

174

:

But I know you'll be so

thankful that you do.

175

:

Of course I knew these were goals that

they could accomplish, but that they were

176

:

going to cost them like giving up screens.

177

:

I'm so thankful that we serve a God

that is worthy of every sacrifice,

178

:

and if it feels like he's asking for

more than you can give right now.

179

:

Ask him for the supernatural

strength to obey him.

180

:

Let's pray.

181

:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for

the model of the daughters of the Lo

182

:

had and I pray we would remember.

183

:

That you delight when we come to you for

provision, for strength and for wisdom.

184

:

As Moses laid down his leadership,

185

:

it reminds me about motherhood remind

us that you're faithfully working to

186

:

build Godly character in our kids.

187

:

make them into the men and

women you long for them to be.

188

:

And I pray over each mom listening

that you would allow them to

189

:

see fruit this week, that it's

working, that it's taking root

190

:

water, the seeds that we plant.

191

:

You are worthy Jesus.

192

:

It's in your name we pray.

193

:

Amen.
