When you think of the Exodus, do you ever think of God proudly saying, "Remember when I did that?" The Exodus is mentioned ALL OVER THE BIBLE! It is a monumental example of God's power to save and it points us to the redemptive work Jesus did on the cross. As you listen to how God guided, protected, and rescued the Israelites, remember that whatever you are battling in your family, the LORD fights for you. :I'm Stephanie Cocks, and today
we're talking about one of God's
3
:proudest moments.
4
:the Exodus is the greatest
symbol of redemption prior to the
5
:death and resurrection of Jesus.
6
:As I mentioned earlier, the
Exodus is mentioned over 120
7
:times in the Old Testament, and
many times in the New Testament,
8
:God is setting his people
apart in holiness so they can
9
:worship and dwell with him.
10
:and if this event is
that important to God.
11
:Then we better read it in its entirety.
12
:Let's begin at 14 verse one.
13
:Then the Lord said to Moses, tell the
people of Israel to turn back and encamp
14
:in front of Faha Roth between MGD and
the sea in front of Baal Zaffron, and
15
:Yu shall en camp facing it by the sea.
16
:For Pharaoh will say of the people of
Israel, they are wandering in the land.
17
:The wilderness has shut them in.
18
:And I will harden Pharaoh's heart and he
will pursue them, and I will get glory
19
:over Pharaoh and all his hosts and the
Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.
20
:when the King of Egypt was told that
the people had fled the mind of Pharaoh
21
:and his servants Was changed toward
the people and they said, what is this?
22
:We have done that.
23
:We have let Israel go from serving us.
24
:So he made ready his chariot and took
his army with him and took 600 chosen
25
:chariots and all the other chariots of
Egypt with officers over all of them.
26
:And the Lord hardened the heart
of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and
27
:he pursued the people of Israel.
28
:While the people of Israel were going out.
29
:Def divinely.
30
:The Egyptians pursued them all,
Pharaoh's horses and chariots and his
31
:horsemen and his army, and overtook
them and camped at the sea by Pi
32
:Harath in front of Beal Zefran.
33
:When Pharaoh drew near the people of
Israel, lifted up their eyes and behold
34
:the Egyptians were marching after
them and they feared greatly, and the
35
:people of Israel cried out to the Lord.
36
:They said to Moses.
37
:Is it because there are no graves in Egypt
38
:that you have taken us away
to die in the wilderness?
39
:What have you done to us in
bringing us out of Egypt?
40
:Is not this what we said to you
in Egypt, leave us alone that
41
:we may serve the Egyptians for.
42
:It would've been better for
us to serve the Egyptians
43
:than to die in the wilderness.
44
:And Moses said to the people, fear not
stand firm and see the salvation of the
45
:Lord, which he will work for you today.
46
:For the Egyptians whom you see
today, you shall never see again.
47
:The Lord will fight for you
and you have only to be silent.
48
:The Lord said to Moses,
why do you cry to me?
49
:Tell the people of Israel to go forward.
50
:Lift up your staff and stretch out
your hand over the sea and divide it.
51
:That the people of Israel may go through
the sea on dry ground and I will harden
52
:the hearts of the Egyptians so that they
shall go in after them, and I will get
53
:glory over Pharaoh and all his hosts,
his chariots and his horsemen, and the
54
:Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord
when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh.
55
:His chariots and his horsemen.
56
:Then the angel of God who was going before
the host of Israel, moved and went behind
57
:them and the pillar of cloud moved from
before them and stood behind them coming
58
:between the host of Egypt and the host of
Israel, and there was the cloud and the
59
:darkness, and it lit up the night without
one coming near the other all night.
60
:Then Moses stretched out
his hand over the sea.
61
:And the Lord drove the sea back by a
strong east wind all night and made the
62
:sea dry land and the waters were divided.
63
:And the people of Israel went into
the midst of the sea on dry ground,
64
:the waters being a wall to them on
their right hand and on their left.
65
:The Egyptians pursued and went
in after them into the midst of
66
:the sea, all pharaoh's horses,
his chariots and his horsemen.
67
:And in the morning, watch the
Lord and the pillar of fire.
68
:And if Cloud looked down on the Egyptian
forces and threw the Egyptian forces
69
:into a panic, clogging their chariot
wheels so that they drove heavily
70
:and the Egyptians said, let us flee
from before Israel for the Lord,
71
:fights for them against the Egyptians.
72
:Then the Lord said to Moses, stretch out
your hand over the sea, that the water
73
:may come back upon the Egyptians, upon
their chariots and upon their horsemen
74
:so Moses stretched out his hand over the
sea, and the sea returned to its normal
75
:course when the morning appeared and as
the Egyptians fled into it, the Lord threw
76
:the Egyptians into the midst of the sea.
77
:The waters returned and covered
the chariots in the horsemen
78
:of all the host of Pharaoh that
had followed them into the sea.
79
:Not one of them remained, but
the people of Israel walked
80
:on dry ground through the sea.
81
:The waters being a wall to them on
their right hand and on their left.
82
:Thus, the Lord saved Israel that day from
the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel
83
:saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.
84
:Israel saw the great power that the
Lord used against the Egyptians, so the
85
:people feared the Lord and they believed
in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
86
:Then Moses and the people of
Israel sang this song to the Lord
87
:saying, I will sing to the Lord.
88
:For he has triumphed, gloriously
the horse and his rider.
89
:He has thrown into the sea.
90
:The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.
91
:This is my God and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.
92
:The Lord is a man of war.
93
:The Lord is his name.
94
:Who is like you?
95
:Oh Lord, among the gods who is like
you, majestic and holiness awesome
96
:and glorious deeds doing wonders.
97
:You stretched out your right hand.
98
:The earth swallowed them.
99
:You have led in your steadfast
love, the people whom you have
100
:redeemed and have guided them by
your strength to your holy abode.
101
:And the song concludes, you will
bring them in and plant them on your
102
:own mountain, the place, oh Lord.
103
:Which you have made for your
abode, the sanctuary, oh Lord.
104
:Which your hands have established.
105
:The Lord will reign forever and ever.
106
:In this powerful act,
God saves his people.
107
:He guides them with the pillar of cloud.
108
:But then as the Egyptians get
near, it switches from guiding
109
:them to protecting them as it moves
between them and the Egyptians.
110
:The distinction that God has made
between his people and the Egyptians
111
:now allows.
112
:The Israelites to cross this
body of water on dry land.
113
:But for the Egyptians, God
will create confusion and their
114
:chariot wheels will get stuck in
the sand and they will perish.
115
:And finally, the people believe
in the Lord and understand
116
:And they worship, rightfully so.
117
:in the worship song,
118
:they come back to this idea
119
:that the Lord is making a
dwelling place with them.
120
:I've heard of a lot of
archeological evidence confirming
121
:this that I think is so neat.
122
:I've even heard about how there's amber
footprints at the bottom of the Red
123
:Sea, and if the Lord was leading them
and a cloud by day and fire by night.
124
:That seems to make so much sense.
125
:We've found chariot wheels, many
things, but people will say, but
126
:there's no record of it in Egypt.
127
:I've been blessed to attend
several football games in my life.
128
:And you know what they
never do in a stadium.
129
:They never put up banners for the years
that they were miserably defeated.
130
:They put up banners for the years
that they were victorious, and
131
:the Egyptians were no different.
132
:They were infamous for erasing any
history That reflected poorly upon them.
133
:And as the Lord blotted this Pharaoh
out from the pages of history, I
134
:wanted to tell you that we think
it was probably Aman Hot ii.
135
:We have a Dream Stella, which is an
ancient Egyptian inscription that
136
:tells us that his firstborn son died.
137
:It may be that he died during
the plague of the firstborns.
138
:We also know that one of his
later descendants, Ahman Hot iv,
139
:abandoned the worship of Egyptian
Gods and decided to worship one God.
140
:Do you think maybe he got this idea
141
:from the events of the Exodus?
142
:In terms of the Trinity, I usually
think of God the father, when I think
143
:of Exodus but a couple weeks ago
I was reading in the Book of Jude.
144
:This is written by Jesus' half brother,
and he did not believe in Jesus until
145
:after the resurrection when Jesus
appeared to him and Jude verse five says.
146
:Now I want to remind you, although you
once fully knew it, that Jesus who saved a
147
:people out of the land of Egypt afterward
destroyed those who did not believe.
148
:And I just had to rethink my whole
perspective at Jesus's role in the
149
:Exodus the Lord gave him a leading role
in this redemption story as he would
150
:have on the cross but I can't help.
151
:But smirk a little bit.
152
:When I think about Jesus revealing
to his brother that didn't believe
153
:him as he walked this earth, that
hey, I just rose from the dead.
154
:And also can I tell you what
else I've done in history?
155
:I would really love to have
observed that process of Jesus
156
:enlightening his earthly brother.
157
:I hope for my own faith and for my kids
that I don't so quickly forget the amazing
158
:works that the Lord has done on my behalf.
159
:And when I come to these moments that
feel like I'm up against the Red Sea
160
:and that circumstances or fear are
closing in that I remember the testimonies
161
:the Lord has given me and I can trust
that the Lord will fight for me.
162
:A verse I've had multiple friends
bring to my mind this week is Psalm 20.
163
:Verse seven.
164
:Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord
165
:even when it seems there is no hope.
166
:our God will be victorious in
all he determines to accomplish.
167
:And because he has set his eyes on you
in love, you can be assured that he has
168
:good purposes for you and for your kids.
169
:as we've seen in each book of the Bible,
that doesn't promise that it will be
170
:easy or that it will be comfortable.
171
:But we can be certain that
God will work it for good.
172
:today, I had a door closed that
I was so hopeful to walk through,
173
:but I have to believe in the goodness and
the protection of the Lord for my family.
174
:Have you had moments where you feel
like you're the Israelites looking at
175
:the Red Sea and the enemy is coming
upon you, whether it's health news
176
:or finances or relational strife
177
:or just complete overwhelm that
you can't seem to get reprieve.
178
:When we cry out to the Lord,
he is fully able to rescue us.
179
:Heavenly Father, we praise you for
your power and your glory and your
180
:might, and we thank you that you
are the same God today and we know
181
:that means that you can, and you do
mighty works on our behalf as well.
182
:We pray that we would be patient
when you ask us to wait for them.
183
:We pray that we would see
how you're working even when
184
:it's in ways we don't expect.
185
:And that we would praise you
regardless because you fight for us.
186
:I pray that you would help us to
worship before the testimony and
187
:during the testimony and after,
188
:and that the grumbling that would
come so easily to us and to our kids.
189
:That you would help us to train
our tongues for righteousness
190
:and to give you glory.
191
:We thank you that you are a God who saves,
192
:and once again, Jesus, we have
this reminder that you are
193
:our rescuer and our redeemer.
194
:Amen.
